The utopiA

I Final

Using wool and vegan paper, I focused on maximizing each material’s features, such as the flexibility of the wool and the versatile shapes that can be realized by folding the vegan paper.

II Final

This art piece displays me surrounded by the world I created. The biological and utopian world is circulating once again because of me. The space and creatures in the utopia world drawn on aprons and traditional Korean fabric surround me, and they are becoming another space for me to stay.

III Final - mini

I faced a few challenging points. If I can develop this work in the future, I would try to enhance the density of the structure by binding several plastic pieces, in order to make the hexagon-shaped structure stand out more.

This is a project that I started to create my utopia. In my utopia, there is no distinction between land and sea. The rolling clouds in the sky become waves, and the vast mountain ranges under the sea become the topography of the land. In the process of building my world, existing creatures lose their characteristics and gain new bodies. The roots of the baobab tree are fused with the octopus' legs to allow them to freely travel between land and sea, and other creatures also change their original characters and transform their body parts and organs for adaptation to the environment. They maintain balance and harmony between the ecosystem and nature as well.

The utopia I envision is not just a beautiful and comfortable haven to live in but a space bustling with continuous cycles of purification, creating a shelter akin to heaven. Nature, which the unresolved problems of modern society have ruined, circulates through the ecosystem of modified creatures in the utopia I have created, returning to its clean and original form. Waste that is discarded becomes food for living beings, materials to build safe homes, and transportation for creatures to move around.
